EI’s work scope was to provide professional architectural, engineering, and construction management services for detailed design phase and execute the required procurement and construction to complete the Screening and Applied Research Laboratory at Chanel Inc.’s Piscataway, NJ facility.

The new Screening and Applied Research Laboratory was built on the existing second floor of the warehouse serving as production areas, with miscellaneous equipment and storage racks. The objective of the project was to remove the existing office, racks, equipment, etc. and to convert the area into the new Screening and Applied Research Laboratory.

The new laboratory includes office areas for the Executive Director, administrative and research personnel, and a conference room; Histology, Molecular Biology and Biochemistry Lab areas; a Cell Culture Lab with an airlock; sterilization, dark room, cold room, microscopy, and storage rooms. The roof of the building was opened and clerestory windows installed from the Cell Culture Lab to the conference room (approximately 62 lf. in length.)

The new lab and corridor areas are heated and air-conditioned. The new Cell Culture Lab and airlock have a separate self-contained HEPA fan module and a roof mounted exhaust fan to maintain the area in a negative pressure condition in relation to the surrounding areas. Electrical and plumbing services were provided as well as the required new laboratory furniture.
