As part of the consolidation of the recent purchase of Berlex Laboratories, Bayer Healthcare Pharmaceuticals has determined to locate the North American Headquarters at the former Berlex site in Wayne, NJ. The Wayne facility houses office, warehouse, laboratory and support spaces. In order to provide new office space for approximately an additional 300 employees, EI was retained to design the installation of a new second floor level within the former high-bay Manufacturing area utilizing the volume available as a result of the 22 foot clearance to the underside of the roof deck. Further, EI designed a new second floor addition over the former single-story Quality Control Laboratory Building. The first floor areas of the laboratory will also be renovated as additional office space. Approximately 70,000 square feet of remodeled first floor space and 50,000 square feet of new second floor space will be created for a total of 120,000 square feet of new office space.

To satisfy the additional building occupants, the project also includes a cafeteria expansion, new state-of-the-art multipurpose room and site improvements for expanded parking for approximately 220 cars, revision to the entrance drive and main gate area, new visitor parking, a new guard house and related site lighting.
