General Chemical
General Chemical desired to increase absorption tower production rates at their Newark, NJ plant by installing larger capacity sulfuric acid pumps relocated from their Delaware plant.
EI Associates was selected by General Chemical to prepare the detailed design for the three pump installation which was complex due to the plan to reuse the teflon lined pipe from Delaware. It required highly accurate measurement and detailed piping design for shop fabrication of spools to ensure proper fit as no field fabrication or fit-up was possible. EI‘s process design team provided detailed design drawings and specifications for the pump installation, platform revisions, pump foundations, new piping and revisions, and electrical power design.
The project was successfully completed under a very tight schedule to minimize plant downtime and required thorough coordination of the construction in a congested, operating plant.
