Newton High School & Merriam Avenue Elementary School

A comprehensive facilities improvement program developed from the District’s Long-Range Facilities Plan has been developed by EI Associates for the Newton Public Schools. The program includes roof replacements, miscellaneous repairs and upgrades at all three of the District’s schools, as well as an addition to the elementary school.

The High School work includes a complete renovation and upgrading of the entire science department; reconfiguration of the media center; kitchen upgrades; curtain wall replacement; interior and exterior door and hardware replacement; ADA upgrades; fire alarm replacement and electrical upgrades. The site work included additional parking; sidewalk and curbing replacements; exterior lighting and signage.

The elementary school addition includes: 14 classrooms; gymnasium; site, and security improvements. The alterations include: media center expansion; computer lab; art and music rooms; main office reconfiguration and space for full-day kindergarten.

The project included moving the 5th grade from the middle school and the pre-school disabled program from the high school to the elementary school. This grade realignment allows the district to operate within their ideal grade configuration.
