Summerfield Elementary School

Under a pilot program to streamline the building of new school facilities the NJSCC and Neptune Board of Education awarded EI Associates and its partner, Patock Construction, the first ever design build school project in the State. EI’s agricultural theme design, with its main barn-shaped classroom wing, cafeteria reminiscent of a community meeting hall and colonial inspired media center was chosen the best out of five major design/build teams.

The new Summerfield Elementary School was designed with unique features that provide excellent learning opportunities for the students, while also being available to the community for functions outside of school hours. For example, a period garden and an outdoor amphitheatre are oriented to the music room which doubles as a stage, the music room also opens up to the cafeteria for performances. The new facility will also incorporate the latest in efficient building design to ensure it will be cost effective for the district over a forty year expected life. LEED principles will be employed and it will be built with a LEED “Gold Standard” as the goal.

The construction of the new facility will be performed on one side of the existing school site, while the original Summerfield ES remains in operation. Careful evaluation of the final design to minimize construction impacts on the existing school was provided by EI Associates K-12 Design Studio.
