High School & District-wide Athletic Fields Master Plan
As Metuchen’s Architect-of-Record EI Associates coordinated the facility planning and design for a successful referendum in December 2004. The $28 million referendum supported a number of school building project needs and included $5 million in site work. The entire project received a 40% reimbursement in state aid. The major capital project is a large renovation and addition to the high school which was originally built in the early 1960’s.
In a mile square community, open space is at a premium and the school district’s athletic fields are used by the entire community. With consistent heavy use, Metuchen sought the development of a plan that would maximize usage of its fields enabling the Borough to keep pace with the growing need for playfields by the community. They wanted a plan to determine the appropriate configuration, usage and maintenance of the existing fields. The plan includes:
- Synthetic in-fill turf field at the high school.
- Renovated natural turf fields for baseball, softball, soccer and field hockey.
- Subsurface drainage to increase field usage following rain.
- Site-specific maintenance plans.
