High School Track Reconstruction & Related Improvements
The Madison BOE recognized the need to upgrade the high school track and field facilities to meet current competitive standards. The Board sought to replace the existing 440-yard cinder track with a six lane red resilient surface 400-meter all-weather track and to upgrade other high school athletic facilities. EI was brought-in to design the necessary modifications and to select the appropriate quality track system, consistent with the district’s cost constraints.
The field facilities designs that were addressed included:
- New concrete shot put pad
- New metal cage with energy absorbing mesh for the discus throw area
- Replacement of the pole vault runway and high jump approach with an all-weather resilient surface over a concrete base and asphalt base, respectively
- Replacement of the long jump runway with all-weather resilient surfacing over a concrete base
- Sand landing pit with an edge system to accommodate removable covers
- A new flush concrete curb and channel drain system was designed for the inner edge of the track to drain both the track and the existing football field. EI added an under drain system at one end of the track to alleviate wet areas.
