Harrison High School

Design of the new Harrison High School has been completed by EI Associates and the project is under construction. This is one of the first new high schools to be designed and constructed with full funding from the NJSCC.

The school contains thirty 9-12th grade classrooms, science labs, an art room, auditorium, gymnasium complex, media center, TV studio, and cafeteria. The music room opens to an outdoor performance space for school and community use. The pool is strategically located for community as well as educational use. Building materials and massing recall the existing high school in a modern expression which relates to the site.

The athletic field area of approximately five acres provides for full sized football, soccer, baseball and softball fields, overlain in a compact 400 ft. by 450 ft. area, including bleachers. A recreational all-weather track encircles the fields. Because of the anticipated heavy use of the fields, the surface of the fields is artificial turf. The recreational track will also be utilized by the community. Parking for the school can be used by the community during sporting events and for general recreation.

Three tennis courts, color coated and fenced, are to be built as part of the school’s athletic program, but will also be available to the community. The recreational track is an asset also to be utilized by the community, and lower-level track lighting for evening jogging is being planned into the overall sports lighting design. Parking designed for the school can be used by the community during sports events and for general recreation.
